Course Description:

This course provides content applicable to the leadership and managerial role and responsibilities of the professional BSN. Content includes health care trends, policies that influence nursing care, developing role of manager, legal and ethical issues, and decision making strategies for changing the status quo; the management of resources, personal and interpersonal skills.

Course Objectives:
  • Synthesize knowledge from nursing, biophysical, and social sciences to intervene therapeutically to promote, restore, and maintain the health of individuals, families, and aggregates.
  • Describe how selected heath care trends influence the practice of professional nursing in the clinical environment.
  • Examine how selected health care policies influence nursing care and summarize findings.
  • Explain the impact of an organization's mission, structure, and objectives on nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage nursing care for a group of assigned clients, based on web simulation activity presented.
  • Select and apply a leadership style in promoting cultural sensitivity and competence to on situation present.
  • Analyze principles and theories of delegation, supervision, leadership and management of health care providers; compare them to the corresponding characteristics of leaders in the clinical setting.
  • Apply principles and theories of delegation to specific case scenarios.
  • Design health education interventions and apply teaching/learning principles in working with patients, families, and health care providers.
  • Integrate research findings in nursing practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  • Discuss strategies used to obtain employment new employment or advance in the present employment.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for self-directed learning and professional growth.
